Everybody, including children, can suffer from hair loss, called alopecia. Baldness is excessive loss of hair from your scalp. Heredity, a disease or even medicine can trigger baldness. Androgenetic alopecia is the commonest type of hair loss. It is responsible for about 95% of the cases of baldness in the United States of America. Males suffer from androgenetic alopecia far more often than females. Two factors must be present for it: a genetic predisposition and the male hormone testosterone (yes, women have a low level of testosterone in their bodies). Usually, an enzyme in hair follicles converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which stimulates the growth of body and face hair, but also diminishes hair follicles on the scalp, causing thinner, fuzzier growth. A genetic predisposition, alongside higher levels of testosterone and DHT, increases the probability baldness. Baldness is observed when the number of shed hair exceeds the rate of re-growth or when the re-growth is thinner and/or shorter than the hair that is shed. Androgenetic alopecia is not considered a medical disorder; it is more a cosmetic issue. Propecia (Finasterine) is one the most widespread methods of treatment approved by FDA. Taken daily in a tablet form, Propecia deteriorates the conversion of testosterone to DHT, hence helping to prevent the shrinking of hair follicles. Propecia is for males ONLY and must not be taken by women, because it can bring on birth defects. GENERIC PROPECIA, which is as powerful as the branded drug, is much cheaper and, consequently, can be bought by a larger number of males suffering from excessive hair loss. At the end of 24 months' study 83% of men aged 18 - 41 with mild to moderate treated with Generic Propecia have showed positive results of the Generic Propecia. The majority of males reported improvement in appearance. Like all prescription medications, Generic Propecia may lead to side effects. In clinical studies, side effects from Generic Propecia were rare and did not affect most males. A very small number of men reported certain sexual side effects. Each of these side effects was observed in less than 2% of males. These adverse side effects were impermanent and went away in males who stopped taking Generic Propecia. These adverse side effects also disappeared in most males (58%) who continued taking Generic Propecia.
